Fave Fall Lipsticks

My name is Olivia and I have an undying devotion to matte lips. Because of the intensity of me love for all that is devoid of shine, it is only appropriate that I share my favorite fall matte lipsticks with you all!

During the fall I have a preference for deeper shades, nudes, and flesh tones. I love reds, though I tend to stray away from those with coral or orange undertones. Even my nudes have a bit of depth to them, particularly the shade Courageous, which is meant to be a medium bluish brown, but shows up on my skin as a deeper mauve-y nude.

Small Details

While I’m always here for a bold, graphic sweater or a bright floral print, sometimes it’s all about the small details. Working with solid pieces can provide the perfect canvas for dramatic accessories, but I’ve recently been obsessed with simple, one-tone accessories.

For this outfit, I decided to keep things pretty basic. I paired a plain black tank top with these high waist American Eagle jeggings (my favorite denim of all time). I then added on my faux suede booties with the fringe on the side for some extra razzle-dazzle and a grey cardigan because I’m finally beginning to feel those fall chills.

Choker: Rue 21; Tank: Walmart; Jeans: AEO; Booties: Target; Cardigan: CATO Fashions; Bracelets: Forever 21

Then, to top it all off, I brought in the accessories. The tied choker brings in some 90’s flair that’s still a little bit sweet and classy. I finished it all off with 2 bracelets from a 6 piece geometric set. They remind me of my 9th grade geometry class where I began my first rap group (shout out to my fellow member of Pythagorean Theorem)!

Slytherin Inspired Makeup

“Or perhaps in Slytherin,
You’ll make your real friends,
Those cunning folk use any means,
To achieve their ends.”

It’s autumn again, which means that I am officially in my Harry Potter groove. I’ve got a free month trial of Kindle Unlimited and have been using it to re-read the book series, and I began re-watching the films around mid September. Because I’ve been feeling that magic fever, I’ve decided to create Hogwarts house themed makeup looks and am kicking it off with Slytherin!

Wet N Wild Photofocus Setting Spray

Much like my past attitude toward eye primers and bronzers, I used to be a non-believer when it came to setting sprays. Then I realized that even the most hydrating face products suck moisture out of the relentlessly dry patches in my face, so I bought my first setting spray and finally got my life together. Now, I’m moving in on my setting spray journey and have come to share my thoughts on Wet N Wild’s Photofocus Setting Spray.

The packaging of this spray is pretty sweet! Just in case you forgot that this product is supposed to get you camera ready, the lid is designed to look like a camera lens. The spray nozzle works really well, shooting off a fine mist, that evenly coats the skin without getting you too drenched. The actual bottle holds 1.52 fl oz of mist. For reference, the Elf Makeup, Mist, and Set has 2.02 fl oz, the Maybelline Master Fix has 3.4 fl oz, and the L’oreal has 4.6 fl oz. It only costs $5, so it makes sense that there wouldn’t be too much product in it, but if you’re a person that wants their products to stay with them through the apocalypse, then this might not be the best bet for you.

The spray itself is fairly multi-functional. I use it a lot to wet my brush when I want to intensify my shimmery shadows and it works fantastic for that, especially since it gives off a really even mist. On the website it claims to have a “weightless formula” with “aloe vera to hydrate skin.” It does accomplish that. I use it after I bake, apply powder, or essentially finish my face routine, because all of my face products sometimes feel a bit thick and drying on my skin. This blurs over all my dry patches, hydrates areas after powder, and makes all of my products blend in together. Overall my face feels really great after misting it on and my skin feels refreshed.

My only gripe with the product is with the fact that it doesn’t do anything to dramatically improve the length of my makeup. Online it claims to elongate your makeup time “by preventing cracking, smudging, fading, or creasing.” I’ve used this with both my Revlon ColorStay, Maybelline Dream Matte Mousse, and Maybelline Dewy + Smooth, and it doesn’t really extend the wear of any of them. Usually, my foundation always began to fade or crack maybe an hour or so after it would have without the product. I don’t usually have the willpower to touch up my makeup during the day, so an hour extension doesn’t quite do it for me.

In full, this product is one that I actually enjoyed. Its cost efficient, cruelty free, hydrates the skin, and can be used for many purposes. Unfortunately, it doesn’t do anything dramatic for the wear time of my foundation, but if you’re looking for a cheap mist to make your makeup look better, hydrate the skin, and level up your eyeshadow, then I definitely recommend this!

Fall Fashion Trends Cooler than the Autumn Chill

So you’ve bought your reusable mugs for your apple cider, have a pumpkin pie on your counter, and are the owner of the world’s coziest blanket. You’re practically fall ready. The only thing missing is your wardrobe. For all of my fellow autumn lovers, here are 5 cool fashion trends to take you through the autumn season.

Bell Sleeves

Hit the kids up with a special amount of flare this fall with bell sleeves. The length says, weather appropriate, but the open ends are ready for all the buildings that decide to go hard with their heating units. Get the most dramatic entrances with this lace up bodysuit. Dazzle the party crowd with a deep red playsuit. Or, get in touch with your inner Wednesday Addams with a solid black and white ensemble.

Bomber Jackets

Stay cosy and cool with the hottest jacket trend of the season: bomber jackets. Keep it light and flirty with this floral print jacket, perfect for fancying up your denim. Let out your love for Missy Elliot’s “The Rain” and go for a classic, lightweight baggy and black option. For extra warmth, try out something like this faux wool jacket so you have something to snuggle up to when your blanket isn’t on hand.

Finally my favorite trend from elementary and middle school has circled back around as we return to the endless class that is velvet. Go fun and quirky with a piece that incorporates print and embroidered detailing. Give everyone that razzle dazzle with a velvet open back and form fitting number. Show off your fanciest footwear by combing two awesome fall favorites: ankle booties and crushed velvet.

Over-the-Knee Boots

Have the warmest legs on the planet with my personal fall obsession: over the knee boots. Combine them with a non-traditional and chunky heel to get all the fall shoe trends in one. More of a flat shoe diva? Have no fear with a burgundy pair that perfect for those long walks through the park. Get to stepping with some ultra-sleek hardware accents; the shinier the better.

Get the ultimate vampire vibes even when October comes to a close with a collection of burgundy pieces. Easily bring that deep red love into an outfit with a warm sweater. Spice up your shoe collection by bringing the color into a pair of booties. Immerse yourself in the 90s revival by matching a classic 90s dress silhouette with burgundy and velvet for a combo that’s almost too great to handle.

Maybelline Dream Matte Mousse Foundation Review

I’m a sucker for all types of non-traditional packaging and the Maybelline Dream Liquid Mousse Foundation. When I found out these two concepts existed in a combined form, I had to pick it up, which is why I am now the owner of a pot of this super squishy foundation! For a low $8.99, you too can be the owner of the Maybelline Dream Matte Mousse Foundation. Whether you should be the owner of one is another question.

The 0.64 ounces of product comes in a weighty, but compact glass pot with a plastic lid. When you twist it up and touch it, it feels incredibly spongey and squingy and ultimately feels like what I assume a ColourPop foundation would be. It feels exactly like a looser formula of the ColourPop SuperShock shadows, which is confusing at first, but makes it a great idea for people that like to travel. No shattering, no leaking, and no mess.

The wear of the product, in my opinion, relies upon application. Because it’s a solid foundation, it’s a bit trickier to work with and definitely takes more time to use. The fastest application that I’ve found is using a dense, flatter top foundation brush. I start by dabbing it into the pot about two times and then apply the product that’s on the brush to my face in circular motions. The only problem with this, is that I sometimes end up with the product appearing a little cakey. I think it looks best when applied with a damp blending sponge, but the downside is that it takes forever to apply this way. I dip my finger into the pot with enough force to actually pick up a glob of product. Then I spread it onto a section of my face and use the sponge to blend it in. The sponge presses the product more evenly into the skin, so the finish is a lot more airbrushed. Unfortunately, it also sheers the product out a bit, but you can always tap your finger into your foundation pot and spot conceal where you need the extra help (which is actually pretty nifty)!

Hitting that luminosity about 4 hours in

Either way, the foundation lasts for about 3 or 4 hours before I start to look pretty luminous, and 6-8 before it actually tries to break up on the face.* Using the sponge can help stop it from breaking up as fast, but doesn’t do anything to keep you from getting oily. The mousse-y texture of the product won’t ever leave you with an ultra-matte finish, which is probably why oil gets through it and breaks it up over time. Also, it definitely emphasizes the presence of pores. For best application I recommend pairing it with a pore filling primer and a setting spray to create a longer lasting, better looking wear.

This isn’t a bad foundation, but it also isn’t a knockout. The application is fussy, it isn’t long-wearing by itself, and the color selection isn’t all that great. It is great for travel though, and does look fairly nice on the skin. Plus, all of my other face products blend into it seamlessly. Is it holy-grail status? No. Is it a fun product to switch things up in your makeup routine for a bit? Definitely.
